Chris Myers Biography

Candidate for Congress, NJ-3

 

Family Man & Local Mayor

The married father of two children, Chris Myers, 42, was born in Riverside, NJ and grew up in what is now the 3rd Congressional District, which stretches from the Delaware River to the Atlantic Ocean.  He now serves as Mayor of his hometown, Medford, where he has helped to preserve thousands of acres of farmland and open space and cut property taxes this year.

 

Top Student

Chris earned a full Navy ROTC Scholarship to the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he majored in Political Science and graduated 2nd out of a 250 member ROTC organization in May of 1988.  He later enrolled at Cornell University he earned a Masters of Public Administration, and was a Senior Fellow at the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs.

 

Decorated Combat Veteran

After graduation from Colorado, Chris joined the United States Navy and eventually earned the rank of Lieutenant.  Aboard the USS Bunker Hill, Chris served as the Operations Officer and was responsible for the management of all day-to-day operations of this forward deployed AEGIS Cruiser, including the management of 150 personnel and $5M in equipment. 

 

He also served as Air Warfare Officer and was responsible for the development and execution of air defense plans for multiple combat ships and aircraft, while navigating the mine-infested waters of the Persian Gulf.  For his service on the USS Bunker Hill during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Chris earned numerous medals and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Valor distinction, Navy Achievement medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Liberation of Kuwait Medal.

 

Following the Persian Gulf War, Chris served as the Joint Air Defense Officer/Strike Officer in Norfolk, Virginia, responsible for development and execution of large scale Naval/Joint/NATO exercises, including the strategies and tactics used by combat personnel.  He drafted requirements and concepts for new combat systems, and was awarded a Joint Service Commendation Medal and Joint Service Achievement Medal for superior performance of duty.

 

Business Leader

Chris was hired by Lockheed Martin in 1997 and quickly rose through the ranks.  He titles have included: Business Development Manager, Director of Missile Defense and Radar Programs, Vice-President of Sea-Based Missile Defense Programs, and Vice-President of Business Development.  Along the way, Chris has successfully managed multi-billion dollar budgets and helped to create thousands of jobs in the region and make Lockheed Martin the area’s largest private employer.

 

Endorsed by Congressman Jim Saxton

Chris earned the personal endorsement of Congressman Jim Saxton upon entering the race in January, and has the backing of a united party in Burlington and Ocean counties, and Cherry Hill.  He now faces a 16-year Trenton incumbent with a history of tax and spending increases that have damaged New Jersey’s economy and earned us the dubious distinction as the highest taxed state in the nation.
